Can anybody spot the new sponsor here? You have to admit it wouldn't be the first on your guess list.

Who would have thought we'd see the day when Microsoft sponsored a PHP conference.

I would have thought they would just have covertly sent in some employees to bring back notes on where they went wrong ;-)

Can you give any information behind their motives on this? I assume you discussed it at length with them as to why they are doing this :-)

    Do I forsee php.NET?

Most of the PHP and Open Source magazines distributed in Europe have a whopping great Visual Studio.NET ad somewhere around page 2, helping keep the magazines afloat. Guess there'll be demo CDs being handed out at the conference.

"Do I forsee php.NET? " Already here though not Microsoft sponsored as far as I know: http://www.php-compiler.net/

I know there are non-MS php.NET implementations, I meant as a Microsoft product (free or otherwise)

that's not unusual or special at all. MS is also Gold sponsor at OSCON EU that happens at the same time. They are frequently sponsoring Open Source events, for obvious reasons ;-)

  5. Brett says:

Well it actually is a bit unusual, I think it's the first PHP conference they're sponsoring. That means that for the first time it's on their 'radar'.

  6. Björn Schotte says:

They have been sponsering printed Ads for example in PHP Magazin ( http://www.phpmag.de/ ) for at least four or six months (including trial CDs of VisualStudio 2.0).

    > including trial CDs of Visual Studio 2.0

hmm, that must have been between 1990 and 1995. :-) I think the CD contains a beta of Visual Studio .NET 2005, but I didn't have a look.

  8. Lukas says:

they have been at a bunch of PHP conferences last year ..

actually they were a top sponsor of the international php conf in frankfurt last year ..
they pulled out at the last second probably because alot of speakers threatend to not appear if microsoft insist on giving their sponsor session on ASP development.

  9. Jacques Marneweck says:

Extremely funny to see Microsoft sponsoring a PHP conference. Maybe they're trying to get onto the PHP bandwagon a little too late?

  10. Artem says:

With the money that this company has, they have no reason not to get involved. Anything that is remotely successful in the computer industry, I guarauntee Microsoft will try to get a cut of.

Personally, I'm disappointed that Microsoft's sponsorship was accepted. The one thing we don't is M$ muscling in on our beloved PHP :]

  11. sumit says:

I too hate M$ in PHP. not that I hate M$. But PHP ... It's different. and they shdn't get in this! anyway for them I guess "It's All Business"
    Have a Good Day :-)
